PRESS RELEASE
EXTENSION OF VISA AND WAIVER OF OVERSTAY PENALTY TO FOREIGNERS STUCK IN INDIA
The ongoing situation in the Gulf region has led to disruption of international travel and movement of civilians in the region. Due to the prevailing situation, many foreigners are unable to depart India within their visa validity due to flight disruptions owing to the closing of air-space by gulf countries. The Government, as a goodwill and humanitarian gesture, has decided the following:
- a) All types of Visas/e-visas expiring / due for expiry soon would be extended for a month on gratis basis, for the affected nationals by jurisdictional FRROs on case-to-case basis;
- b) Penalty for any overstay by affected foreign nationals after February 28, 2026 (commencement for Israel-Iran conflict) would be waived off;
- c) Exit Permits to the affected foreign nationals would be provided on gratis basis;
- d) Non-application of Exit Permit and Extension of Visas by affected foreign nationals would not be treated as violation of migration legislation; and
- e) Temporary Landing Permit (TLP) would be granted to a foreign national arriving in India due to diversion of flights on gratis basis.
